faults from nowhere help??

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

faults from nowhere help??

Post by taylorp »

Hi all i am new to the forum, i have a 2003 2.0hdi 90bhp, with bosche fuel rail, 70.000 miles
I only use it once a week and it has always been fine, however today i went out to use it and it would not start it told me i had a airbag fault, the the key sign came on and it told me i had an immobilser fault, now it just shows econemy mode on the display for about 10 secs and then it goes black and the car wont start, it just keeps turning over, any thoughts would be appreciated.

My money's on a dead battery.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Duff battery or dodgy connection. What's the voltage on the battery?

CAUTION: DON'T GO ANYWHERE NEAR IT WITH JUMP LEADS!

Thanks for the replys, why should you not go near with jump leads, and would a low battery stop me from starting meaning voltage rather than amperage, surley if there is enough to crank it over it should start or does it rely on sensors etc giving the coerrect voltage before delivering the fuel??

D9 electrics are very weak and jump starting can do some nasty damage

never ever had a d9 electrics fail due jump starting before. had probably 10 as sales cars so we have jump started almost all of them with no probs before.

even so i dont ever jump start a car, there is no safe way to do it and there will always be a risk of electrical surge, so its a safer option to charge the battery

Thanks i have bit the bullet and purchased a new battery this morning however i still have the same fault that the airbag light is on and it wont fire, is there a safety feature built in to stop it starting if there is an airbag fault occurs?? im clutching at straws i know but it was fine one day then the next it just was not.
Thanks Paul

car will start regardless if there is a fault in the airbag circuit, i know its a long shot, but as you look at your engine with th bonnet up, in the upper far right hand corner there is a fuel shut off valve, its the red thing in this pic

Image

if you press it and here a click its reset and may start, as the airbag light has come on it may have had a bump which triggerd it

The red cap is the reset :cheesy:

Press it down - see if it clicks/helps
