dignostic socket faults

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

dignostic socket faults

Post by djp30djp »

Hi, the diagnostic socket does not work on 1 of my D9's.I've used the code reader on the other 2 with no probs.
I had not used the socket on this car before, but when it deleloped several strange faults I tried to read the memory but the code reader doesn't even light up?
First I noticed the rain sensing wiper stopped working, although the actual wipers worked OK.
Then I noticed the electric seat adjustment would only work after the car had gone to sleep & stopped working again after I started driving again.
Then I noticed the door mirrors had decided to follow the seats.
Next the air con had gone out in sympathy, along with the dimming mirror.
Not being able to access the OBD I started trawling the fuse board & found No 22 was blown. replaced the fuse & bingo, everything back to normal EXCEPT the diagnostic socket which probably didn't work before anyway.

So any Ideas why the dignostic socket might not work?

It's a year 2000 2.0 HDI Exec Estate, same year as 1 of the others which does work.

Is the other one a HDi too?

I think..... Diesels didn't have to be OBDII compliant until 2004.

I haven't got time to look at the moment, but this may help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBDII

Yes 1 of the other cars is identical except the colour. The fact that it has the socket surely means I should get something?

Not necessarily, Neil's has the right socket but it refuses to talk to either the handheld or PC based diagnostics. Maybe you're 2 are just either side of the switchover?

I'm gonna have to declare a "dunno" on this one, someone else will tell you soon I'm sure

Haynes says there's two fuses, one direct and one ignition, any help?

Ok, do you know the fuse numbers?
If the BSI is knacked how come everything works OK except the diagnostic plug? Shouldn't it at least light up the tool.
