retro-fitting cruise control

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

retro-fitting cruise control

Post by jameslxdt »

having just undertake this on my D9 i thought i would share my knowledge here, this only applies to the early non-COMMs HDi D9s,

Parts needed:
On/Off master switch
Setting stalk
Lower steering column shroud
Brake pedal safety switch and retaining clip

Installation:

after much investigation, i discoverd that all the wiring is in place for this so its relatively simple

start off by fitting the master switch, start the engine and push the switch and check that it lights up, stop the engine and fit the setting switch along with the steering column shroud, then remove the carpet panel above the pedals, look for a red two pin plug near the brake pedal, clip the retainer into the round hole next to the pedal linkage, screw the switch into this and plug it in, now it wont work
but dont worry, take a drive to your local pug dealer and get them to reconfigure the engine ECU and the BSi to tell it the car has cruise control, now all is well, go for a drive and get above 25 mph in 4th or 5th gear turn the master switch on and flick the setting switch up and take your foot off the accelerator and cruise 8) and watch as you try and activate the indicators but end up setting a higher or lower speed

Fin. :cheesy:

Does it not involve a solenoid acting on the throttle? Seems a bit odd for 'em to fit something pretty expensive without charging extra for the feature...

Isn't the throtlle controlled by potentiometer on the D9 or is it still cable? :?

If it was fly-by-wire I'm sure we'd have heard of quite a few runaway cars... each month...

Nah they're all cable driven. The throttle pot's used by the ECU for fueling/idle control

Mind you James's car is a 2l petrol, I don't know about diesels.

Edit: Forget this, I misread, you've got a D9! I can't see any reason why not but I don't know whether it depends on trim level as to whether the loom is there :?

Don't blame you, it's almost useless in the UK.

Depends where in the UK, and how you drive. I use my cruise every day and now that I've had it I'd never buy a car without it. :?
