Possessed relay!

Hey all
For no reason at all I'm getting what sounds to be a relay going ape-sh1t while I'm driving along. It sounds like the indicator relay but the blinkers don't actually operate when this happens.
It's more an annoyance than anything else, it sounds as though someone is trapped under the dashboard and morse coding for help!
Anyone come across this or any ideas?

My D8 has the same problem. It seems like it's not quite turning off properly.

I can stop it by manipulating the indicator stalk very slightly.

My usual fix is to turn up the stereo though

I've had this several times. The contact in the indicator wears.(sometimes the indicators come on by themselves). I stripped the indicator mechanism down and cleaned and regreased it. Cures it for quite awhile.
