Hi guys,
I have a 2001 peugeot 406 2.2 Diesel GLX. working beautifully apart from it told me that i was at the minimum of additive/gasoil. Thankfully i looked on the internet and found a cool video of how to refil it and clean the filter, so it cost me £92 to buy the fluid instead of the 250-300 that the stealers wanted.
Unfortunately the warning light on the dash hasnt turned off. I bought a U381 Memoscan code reader off the internet to read the fault codes, which only when i opened the box realised it probably wouldnt work, tried it and lo and behold it doesnt! Can anybody tell me which protocol, the diesels run and or a scanner tool that works with the diesel. I'm thinking if the stealers are going to charge me 40 holes to reset every fault code, i can probably afford up to 200 for a piece of kit that'll read it.
Also if I unplug the ECU will it reset the codes? I was thinking maybe I could try that as a last resort?
Thanks in advance for your help
Kev

Re: 406 fault code reader?
the 2.2 is an akward beast ive no idea what protocol it runs, its not kwp2000 and isnt EOBDII complaint either
i think a trip to the stealer or specialist is unavoidable, you need to have a forced regeneration carried out and the fault codes errased

Hi Jameslxdt,
Think I'm going to try the DIY forced regeneration, you know 60mph in 3rd gear for 20 mins.( I pity anyone who drives behind me on the motorway that day).
Apparently it works fine, just the annoying light is still on, hasn't gone into limp home mode, and as long as its still operating its fine by me. Just kind of annoying as the message flashes up 3 or 4 times every trip.
Thanks for your help.
Incidentally, I checked the connector, which fits the OBD2 scanner and it definitely has wires coming out the back, can I check the voltage of these (pins), short across a couple to reset the ECU? I'm assuming thats all the reader does?
Anyway, thanks again in advance.

Re: 406 fault code reader?
that regeneration wont clear the light, if its not going into limp mode, then after 3 full driving cycles the light will clear itself

Hi James,
Thanks for the reply again, but can you clarify what a driving cycle is? I was under the impression that there is no sensor in the additive tank on my model, so the ecu calculates the level of the fluid from when the code is reset, using the mileage travelled by the car, when it was filled up?
Cheers for the info

Re: 406 fault code reader?
a driving cycle is starting the engine from cold, driving untill it reaches operating temperature, driving for about 30 mins then switch off and allowing then engine cool completley for 8 hours
