Hi
As I drive along in fifth gear at 70 on the m-way, suddenly the speedometer drops out and goes to zero, and I have no idea what speed I am then doing. This will last for about two mins, then it will all kick back in again and the speedo will then "pick up" and revert back to the speed currently being driven at the time.
Any quick fix or ideas?
Thanks

Re: Speedo electrical fault
Mine used to do the same.
It was dry solders on the posts that go from the board to the actual instrument in question, the fuel guage did it too.
Re-solder the four posts on the duff dial and it should fix it.
Nick put a good image of the specific parts in the gallery.
Cheers

Re: Speedo electrical fault
It was a £40 black box behind the glove box for me. Over time the problem got worse until it didn't read the speed at all. Mine was a 198 2.1TD and you got at the box from underneath the glovebox in the passenger footwell.

Re: Speedo electrical fault
A quick way to check which part is duff is to give the speedo a thump or push the bottom of the thing when it's not displaying properly.
If it jumps to life then it's more than likely the posts, if it doesn't then good luck looking.
Hope this helps
