Today I noticed something odd by the fusebox in my new 1998 D8 (ES9J4, Bosch MP7.0). The diagnostics connector wasn't the usual brown iron-shaped one, but a black+white D-shaped 16 pin connector which looks like the EOBD connector in other cars.
In fact, it looks just like this, except with contacts on all pins
Would this be the earliest sighting of a 406 EOBD socket?

from what I have been reading they just fitted a obd style connector but use a different protocol.
