1. when the missus uses her key to lock my 406 the headlights continuously flash whats that all about?
2. when i lock the car with the fob no matter what i do i cant get the alarm to go off, on my old v6 406 you only needed to fart near it and the bas**red would go nuts any ideas what im doin wrong?
3.i have a lock inside the boot near the rear light whats it for?
last one
4. on the coupe when you dead lock it the windows roll up, has any1 fitted a similar system to a normal 406 and how did you do it?
sorry about all the questions any help would be fantastic
thanks damo
1. Sounds like an aftermarket alarm's been fitted.
2. Badly.
3. Something to do with the alarm?
4. You need a total closure relay unit, they're usually an optional extra when you buy an alarm. You could possibly fit something that works with the doors locks, ask an alarm supplier. Or have a search.

OMG - you are the chosen one
You have to sit in the boot, and put the key into the lock turning clockwise. Your car will rise, hovver, and shoot up into the sky you will then live in a paradise for ever more and a place where the only form of transport is a V6 coupe - and Petrol is free, women are free, you don't have to work, and you can eat and drink as much as you like and not get ill later in life.
Good luck my friend........

Pass

Are you hitting the deadlock/alarm button (the small one on the fob, makes the car clunk and flash the indicators when you press it) after you lock it? Try leaving a mobile set to vibrate on the dash, activate the alarm then wait 60 seconds and call it
3.i have a lock inside the boot near the rear light whats it for?
It completely disables the alarm apparently. Some models have it on the centre console
4. on the coupe when you dead lock it the windows roll up, has any1 fitted a similar system to a normal 406 and how did you do it?

Some models have it - my '97 turbo exec with an immobiliser keypad would do it, but my '98 v6 exec (no keypad) doesn't. So I keep leaving the windows open... grr. I suspect it's linked to the presence of the immobiliser keypad or something electrically near it

yeah im deadlocking it i have just tryed the phone thing, nothing
i even sat in it for 5 mins, nothing
but what i did notice was the red light on the alarm switch (external/internal protection) just kept flashing
i havent got the key for the lock in the boot but would it work if i cut the cables to the back of the lock and joined them together?
Still thinking about your flashing headlamps - I reckon either someone's had a tamper or something's been added badly. What's the point of the lock if it's inside the car and you can get to the wires?? Cut the wires first and try it, then carefully try shorting them (still not sure what that is so if you have a multimeter see if there's much voltage across them, if not just touch them together with just one strand of wire first)
oh just found out a bit more about the flashing headlights but dont know what it means though my missus has a 406 coupe and if she locks her car with her fob and as my battery has died in my fob to hercar if i unlock it with the key only the headlights flash even when im driving down the road and the same happens to her in my car (she hasnt got a fob on her key to my car)

It should flash when the alarm's armed. When you use the fob to unlock the doors again, if it's flashing rapidly until you turn on the ignition it means the alarm's been triggered.

Cut the wires then run a multimeter over the lock wires - it may already be connected in which case you'll want to insulate the ends
You've got my interest now, since the Haynes diagrams have neither the boot lock/switch nor any recognisable link between the central locking receiver and the windows. I'm going to have a rummage through my Peugeot wiring schematics
The headlamps flashing sounds very much like the alarm activating with the siren disconnected. If this is the case I think the alarm silence button should be flashing inside too

Ok, I'll admit ignorance over the flashing headlamps. In mittigation neither of mine have an alarm and I've never seen a factory fitted alarm that does anything other than flash the indicators.
just been out tothe car again sat in the car when i lockthe car with the fob this is the switch that flashes
when i was in it i blew into the sensor next to the top of the windscrean and the headlights started to flash i think you guys have sussed it
but no siren though
this is the lock in the boot
could this be a siren cut off or something?
and i could link the wires together and it be working proper?
ok striped the back of the lock
there is 4 white wires
2 connect into the back of the lock and the other 2 are just a loop i assume its a tamper wire?
connected the two wires together that were in the back of the lock and hay presto
NOTHING not a peak of anything still no siren
any1 else got any other ideas?

I've got the same problem Damo; If I set the alarm and then open the car by key the headlights start flashing but no alarm sound. I've heard there is a switch that deactivates the siren but I've never found it

I've just had a look in my car and I've got the same lock inside the boot (and no key to fit it ); it must be for disabling the siren.
I'll have to try splicing the wires & see if it works!
