my water temperature gauge often decides to give no reading, does anyone know where the sensor is for this, have a pic etc?
Cheers

If you also get a beep and the STOP coming up on the dash then it's either the connection to or the water temp sensor. There are two types of sensor fitted over the life of the 90 some are screw in some have retaining clips. The sensor fits into part of the thermostat housing (some housings are plastic, some metal) and isn't expensive (sensor plus o ring plus retaining clip £12 for mine).
Tricky job only in that you will lose some water when sensor removed no matter how quick you are stuffing a bung in the 'ole and since cabin heater matrix close in level to header tank you will get entrained air and probably airlocks unless you have car on slope nose up to raise header tank.

if no beep or STOP then it's time to investigate the wiring to the gauge. Does the gauge needle come up off it's pin when you turn the ignition on?
