Flat screwdriver either side, lever it out and the bulb holders are on the top. It's the diddy little capless bulbs you can get from Maplins/Halfrauds/etc
Just pop the thing out of the holder and go into the shop with it
Also, the mileage display is dim when the lights arnt turnt on but is fine when the lights are on. Does that mean there are 2 bulbs on that display and one isnt functioning?
That's odd, but I'm guessing it's actually the bulbs behind the odo that have gone, and when you put the lights on what you're seeing is light leaking in from other parts of the dash. If you use the brightness adjuster (next to your right knee) and the odometer gets brighter/darker, then this is the case.
Same bulbs, but not so easy to access. Pull the steering wheel out and drop it low. 3 torx screws at the top of the instrument cluster surround, then CAREFULLY pull the surround out being careful to keep the vent stuff with the surround - the vent bits come back about 3-4". Might help to open the drivers door and pop off the little plastic cover. Once the surround's off, there's 4 torx screws holding the instrument cluster in place. Be careful not to lose the screws!
