Auto Wipers
With some jiggerypokery is there a way to wire the automatic wiper function to be on when ignition comes on and not when you move the stalk to make it come on each time?

Not sure, no-one's tried that I know of, you could be the first
There's probably a way of doing it without your windscreen wipers going all night...
I think the idea is sometimes you don't want them to come on, if the screen's covered in snow and ice etc. but it would be useful, you could just switch the buggers on and forget about them. Oddly, on my D9, if I only leave it parked for 5 minutes or so they come straight back on again, weird. Maybe it's a fault

Re: Auto Wipers
Does anyone know (or able to find out) the colour of wires that controls the auto function on the wiper stalk?
Re: Auto Wipers
I guess there isn't a feedwire.
I guess that its all BSI controlled. E.g. signal to say autowipers on, then a general signal for ignition on. The BSI will then use the combination of these signals to decide when it can enable the wipers. Messing with either wire will probably cause you major problems with other electrics in the car.

Re: Auto Wipers
I thought the D8 was BSI-free?
Re: Auto Wipers
The D8 doesn't have a BSI, but the auto wiper function is somewhere external to the stalk, probably a silly little ECU buried somewhere under the dash

Yep and, according to Haynes (BoL), the wire you're looking is possibly labelled "505" (or possibly not, the wiring diagram for the wipers doesn't feature a rain sensor, the headlamp washer diagram does
) but it's giving nothing away re colours or anything useful like that. Hold on, nah, just as useless but I'll stick a link on just in case.
I think it really depends on what that ECU is looking for, I presume once the power's cut then it resets, so you'd have to modify it so it latches. Or modify it all so the sensor stops working with the ignition. Or leave it alone, here be dragons!

ok hands up who's said that before and on sunday lunchtime has a mass of wiring sat in the footwell of the car while drinking your 15th calming cup of tea wishing you's never uttered those words Cant be that difficult....!superdooper wrote:Hmm, might have to get a haynes at weekend and take apart the column and see whats what with the multimeter.
