Immobiliser issues
Hello folks, bit new to 406 ownership, so here goes.
Picked up an X reg 2.0 16v Pug 406 LX Saloon yesterday, and it point blank refuses to start, and I think this is down to the car being laid up for 8 months and the battery on the car eventually drained and died.
Chucked a fresh battery on, remote locking works, engine turns over but refuses to start.
Checked for power to pump, there was none, so applied a live myself to test the pump and it works and the fuel rail gets fuel.
Checked the crank sensor wiring, no power getting to the sensor, and also checked the injectors, and again, no pulses received by the injectors, again, no power.
So this all leads me to believe that there is an immobiliser problem with the car because of the battery drain.
Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve a trip to the stealers... sorry, dealers?

Impatient responses like that are a sure-fire way of encouraging people to ignore your post.Galahad wrote:No one?
The electrics in the D9 are completely different to that of the D8 so straight away your question is only going to be potentially answerable by half the members here
If you're in that much of a hurry, walk to Halfords and buy a Haynes
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I know the remotes can drop out of synch but I'm not sure about the immobilzer, although there have been a fair few problems I don't know of much that I can suggest. (Uless you want to hear about my two keys, one with a transponder and one without and the few days of fun before I realised which was which
)

I was hardly impatient, I simply didn't want my query dropping to the bottom of the threads unread.mjb wrote:Impatient responses like that are a sure-fire way of encouraging people to ignore your post.Galahad wrote:No one?

And 'thanks' for your response, its helped me no end with my problem

I'm not au fait enough with the Peugeot systems to know to be honest.steve_earwig wrote:I know the remotes can drop out of synch but I'm not sure about the immobilzer, although there have been a fair few problems I don't know of much that I can suggest. There is only 1 key, it works remotely with the locks so i'm guessing that means its synced properly, there is a chip in the key and the transponder around the ignition hasn't been disconnected, but I don't honestly know if the remote key works in conjunction with the chip/transponder or is there solely to facilitate just locking the car up.
Just thought that the main battery on the car draining would perk up someones memory if it was a common problem that could be rectified without involving a dealer, but no matter, will try a replacement ECU/chip/transponder from another car tomorrow and see if that cures the problem.

Re: Immobiliser issues
Just a suggestion there is a remote ring that sits around the ignition barrel as you turn the key it reconises the code in the chip and allows ther car to start. Have heard of this before playing up.
Im afriad a trip to the local steeler or an electrican with the right equipment to puug in and test.
If you are a member of the AA or know a friend who is call them out as they have most of the equipment to test it. Thus saving time and money.
Hope this helps Rappy

Any joy, do you know what the fault is now?
Re: Immobiliser issues
Fuel pump relay was dead. Tell tale sign was that regardless of any potential immobiliser issues or ECU issues, the fuel pump should always prime the fuel rail, and that wasn't happening, replaced the fuel relay, and she roared into life!
