Replacing passenger door mirror

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Replacing passenger door mirror

Post by elfman »

My mirror got smashed up on hols and replacement looks pretty straightforward except I didn't realise it may have the sensor in it that gives the dashboard readout for outside air temp. Can anyone confirm if that sensor lives in the passenger mirror, before I spend even more on one of that spec? Also does the body coloured part take on and off easily? Car is 01 HDi GLX. Cheers, Elfman

Hi elfman! Yes the outside temp sensor is in the mirror, to get the body coloured bit off you are better off dismantling the mirror & releasing the lugs from the inside; it will just pop off then.

I would suggest getting one off e bay. As from the local steeler you are looking £140  and that does not include the colour coded part of the mirror either  . I got one off e bay a while back for around £65 also the colour coded cap matched my car :cheesy: Make sure you get the right one a d8 and d9 mirrors are different. Rappy 8)

yes the temp sensor is in the pasenger side mirror, changed mine last year. Initially i tried to remove the colour coded plate but realised i needed to take out the glasss mirror part and then from their its easy to remove.

If i remember there are 2 clips under the mirror which just push out. Good luck

I reckon a little "how to" for the knowledge base would be good here.

If you move the mirror up as far as it will go you'll see 2 prongs sticking down behind it which are part of a round clip
You have to push these toward each other with a small screwdriver to unhook them and the glass will come free. Watch out for the heated mirror plugs as these can snap quite easily!
