Boot lock

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I don't think this is the usual boot lock problem, that's something about giving it a clout in the right place and it pops open. Maybe the solenoid's stuck, the wire's off or the rod's rattling about in the bottom somewhere. Take the trim off and have a squint.
