Phone installation

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Phone installation

Post by Doggy »

Has anyone managed to install a phone kit in a D9, that mutes the audio and uses the existing speakers for the phone?
I understand there's no mute input on the head unit.
Failing that, has anyone got one that works / knows how it's done?
Thanks, in anticipation....

:D Sorted! - (Thanks to Tim_B-V6 and others on the Coupe forum).

Pin 1 of the power (Black) connector is the mute input.

Unfortunately, mine didn't have a wire or female connector in position 1 of the plug shell.
No problem, (I thought), I've got a spare ISO connector set somewhere.....
Found it & guess what - no wire / recepticle in position 1.
Still no problem - just remove a wire / recepticle from said ISO connector set & use it to fill the empty slot in the one on the car......
20 minutes of struggle later got the wire complete with recepticle out of said ISO connector shell.....
Doesn't fit the shell on the cars loom, (diferent make I s'pose).
At this point I should stop, get a suitable lead set & finish it next week.
So I removed all the connections form the speaker half of the spare ISO connector & fitted 8 to the power half. Lopped off the speaker half of the connector. Removed power connector from car's loom & grafted this one on, connection power supply to Nokia phone kit in the process, using permanent & switched lives + earth from the radio power connector & connected the mute lead to pin 1.
It all works - radio mutes while phone active, shows EXT. MUTE on display, resumes radio / CD a few seconds after you hang up. :)
Wasn't brave enough to connect into speaker circuit - just going to use the Nokia speaker mounted in the space in front of the ashtray.

Mine's an RM2 system, radio type is PU1646A(D), Nokia kit is a CK-7W but I think most of them work the same.
