HDI Speedo and other glitches

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

HDI Speedo and other glitches

Post by mflynn1971 »

Hi
I have a 2002 90 HDI. The speedo stopped working recently but has returned albeit erratically. At rest it will move when the car is revved. This has caused it to fail its NCT(Irish MOT). My mechanic thinks its the sender and has ordered one but is this likely if revving the car in neutral affects it. Coming out of the test the hazards came on a few times by themselves. This seems to have been an isolated problem.
Over the past few months the engine coolant temperature warning comes up regularly even from cold. Both temperature needles drop to zero and all returns to normal after a half a minute or so.
I can live with most of this stuff but am worried it points to something like the BSI. The speedo is my only concern as I need it to pass the test and its a pain not having on anyway.

So basically what I'm asking is can an erratic speedo that responds to engine revs be just a sender problem. Any ideas?

Mike
