Drivers window fault

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Drivers window fault

Post by dmonkey82 »

Hey,
this being my first post, as I am a noob, I would like to call on the combined benefit of your extensive knowledge, or something along those lines!

Anyway, the problem is my drivers window (the switch with the A), doesn't want to wind down, or up as i've never managed to get it down!!
All 3 of the other windows work except mine, when the switch is pressed I can here it click, like the switch works but its the motor thats the problem, could anyone confirm this?
The light in the switch works and that.

It was like this when I bought the car, which came from a mates mum. He seems to think, she could make it work somehow, unfortunatly she is not around any more to demonstrate her technique, or teach me the act of witchcraft of which to do it!

Any help will be gratefully recieved, as I'm too tight to take it to the garage!

Cheers, Jon(dmonkey82)

Welcome Jon! :D
You could try swapping the switch out, there are loads of these in the breakers or ebay.
Failing that a second hand motor from ebay or breakers!

If you've got a multimeter stick it across the motor power leads when you press the switch and see if you get 12v DC.

Every car has it's signature fault, on clio's it's the interior door handles, on punto's it's the wiper mech's(amongst other things) and on the 406 it just happens to be the window switch panel. First change the panel, failing that it's the window reg itself.
