Phillips Extreme Power H7 bulbs fitted

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Phillips Extreme Power H7 bulbs fitted

Post by Welly »

Since one of my Osram Nightbreakers died last week I thought I'd try someone elses this time and bought these Phillips bulbs.... http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/h7-phi ... 16782.html

All I can say is WOW! a massive difference on the road (I drive exclusively down unlit B roads to and from work).

I could even see perfectly well without using full beams this morning  it certainly made for an easier drive without straining the eyes trying to make out what's up ahead.

These bulbs are not chavvy "blue effect" jobs or anything they're engineered to put out more light with a nice beam pattern and sharp cut off line (these don't dazzle others unlike cheapo bulbs with dodgy beams).

I also got a free pair of 5w capsules for the side lights which, for the first time ever, are bright white instead of the old yellowy glow so very impressed.

The Nightbreakers I had were good but not this good although they only lasted 1 year so will see how long these Phillips ones go for - the bulb life is a compromise with these high outputs.

Could you do us a picture of the dispersal pattern (not too close)?

Oh, c/h at my gaff broke, I only noticed when it was just above freezing inside so I had a fun evening trying to get my place warm enough so the pipes didn't freeze. Turns out the oil had waxed (at +2? Cheap Russian poo) so the guy had a lot of fiddling about to do to get it working. Even when it was going he wasn't happy with how it was running so, after asking me to stand out the way, he pulled the whole burner out a few times to look at it while he fiddled with the settings - it sounded like a V2 in my boiler room  He has some sort of exhaust gas analysis computer with all sorts of probes and gauges but I guess there's no substitute for the naked eye...

500Kn later I had heating again. Just one damn thing after another :(

Anyway, about that fiver... :cheesy:

I'll gladly send you a fiver, but you'd have to declare that as untaxed earnings and get charged thousands of Kilo Newtons for the pleasure.

How much is 500 Kilo Newtons in GBP?

Surely heating your home with split unit Air Conditioning heat pumps is cheaper than all that oil? or are you planning selling both houses now your married and buying somewhere with a special little Annex for your dear Mother in Law?

Maybe a patio... :supafrisk:

Relax, I don't earn enough to be taxed.

500Kn is about 60 quid (I get scared looking at currency converters, these days they always tell me bad news)

Does that run on wood alcohol or neat horse manure?

What is all this teknolodji nonsense? Wood (cheapest), oil or gas - that's your lot. Because we had a few warm winters loads of people switched to gas (particularly regarding the price of oil last year), that's worked out well tho, the price of oil has dropped and those lovely Ukranians have cut the gas supply. Telly full of MPs squabbling over who's fault it is that there's only a couple of weeks of reserve. Never mind what the f*** they're going to do about it

Save all your farts in jars? I've got solid fuel central heating (basically wood and coal) as where we live we don't get piped gas either. Lots of people have either oil or gas central heating with a big tank in their garden, but we just don't have the £4-£5k spare to get it fitted. We'll just make do with burning wood thank you very much. As a bonus, Kielder forest is only about 10miles up the road, owned by the Forrestry Commission (so the government then) and we 'borrow' wood from there so costs us nowt. Always nice to get something back out of the government...

I was wondering about that myself, and maybe up the sausage and cabbage consumption too.

Split units run on electwissity - or is that in short supply too? :?

It's just a fairly efficient way of heating, especially if you just want to heat one area during the day or whatever plus you get comfort cooling in summer.

Sounds like I'd need one in every room. Will investigate (although dubious of using elektrickery)
