Hi Guys.
Just bought a '98 406 2.1td exec.
Has a few problems including the speedo not working at all. The rev counter and other gauges etc work ok.
I have trawelled through the forum posts and can see a bit of a recurring theme.
I have tried banging it to start and that made no difference. So I have just had the clocks out and resoldered the pcb joints. The speedo still doesn't work.
So where next?? Speedo control module or speed sensor??
I have looked behind the glovebox, and can see a few black boxes about the size of a fag packet. Which one is it?? Any pics or part nos. would be great help.
Where abouts is the speed sensor too??
Many Thanks

Re: Speedo not working
Got the exact same problem on more or less exactly the same model. Mine's sporradic though and sometimes decides to wake up when I'm doing 80-90 ish. I've just done a 300 mile journey, and because I had to stop at either end, it didn't register for about 80miles in total.
Not exactly helped you questions but it's one of those black boxes behind the glovebox that's likely to blame. That's my prime suspect on mine. The speed sensor itself is mounted to the gearbox I think instead of a cable.

Re: Speedo not working
Ok I have been digging around service box.
I have found a box described as Box Electronic; part number 1929SJ, under Tachometer control.
It matches to a Bitron Box behind the glovebox
Also on servicebox is details for the speed sensor on the gearbox ( for my car is part number 616064)
Think I'll do the box first and see if that works.
