Clock not storing and very dim cluster display

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Clock not storing and very dim cluster display

Post by steg90 »

Hi,

My pug 406 1.8 Rapier isn't storing the clock etc settings when I set them, also the cluster display is very dim. Could this be a faulty connection back to the battery or something?

Thanks,
Steve

The dimness - there's a dimmer on the instrument cluster. Not the button with '000' on but the other one. Keep pressing it and the cluster should get brighter and dimmer. I had to ask about that one

No idea about the clock though

Hi,

Lol, not seen that, what is the button with 000 on it - the odo reset button? Guess you mean the one on the left?

Just wondering if the clock / language settings etc should be on a live feed? Maybe I need to delve into the fuse box?!

Cheers,
Steve

Aye it's the odo reset and I mean the one like it but on the other side of the cluster

Good luck with the fusebox. Just hope it's not been butchered like some of the ones we've seen. Be aware that it may well not match the handbook if it's an early D9 (late '99- early '01). See how the Haynes diagram looks if that's the case ;)

Mine did the very same thing last week, i'd left the boot open for the afternoon to dry a damp patch on the carpet out and realised that the boot light wasnt on a timer - ie on constantly. no probs, i thought, just pop the bulb out. Anyway in doing so i shorted the bulb out and blew the fuse (10amp from memory)

Just find the busted fuse and swap it - hey presto, clock working ok and display lit up fully again.

Hi,

I managed to find a bust 5amp fuse, but according to manual this is spare? Changed it anyway and now the clock keeps its 'memory' although the display is still
very dim ( can't see it very clearly )? Can't see any other bust fuses :-(

Thanks,
Steve

How do I get the display out? Do I have to take the cd player etc out?

Prise out the 2 sections to the side of the display then undo the 4 torx screws. Easy job
