Flat bloody battery :X

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Post by teamster1975 »

Called the RAC as no barsteward had any jumpleads (including me  )
Replacement battery from Euros £45! Happy man am I! :D Much better than the £79 Mr RAC quoted!
That'll teach me for putting it off!

Oo-er Teamy.

Funny thing because I think all of the batteries I've had die on me suddenly have all been in the warm weather :?

It's a good thing the 406 is forgiving here because flat batteries in some cars will see you down the dealers having all kinds reset etc :frown:

I think the car's giving me grief because it's long overdue clutch replacement and I'm being punished
Still I did change the oil & filter last weekend, and I'm getting the aircon regassed next Wednesday. Priorities eh?

I bought a new battery Friday too, after spending 35 minutes staring at ELECTRONIC IGNITION FAULT. 780CCA beastie from euros for £50. Still not had a chance to fit it yet though. I'm sure I'll do it after work when I get in the car to go home and come face to face with ELECTRONIC IGNITION FAULT again...

by the way, when buying a new 406 battery, tell the nice chaps at eurocarparts it's for a hdi110 - you'll get a battery that fits nicely, doesn't cost the earth but has massive power output. This is especially crucial for D9 V6s which require the most power of all the 406s to crank yet ECP have them down as needing one of the weaker batteries

Me too!

6.30am barely awake as usual....central locking not working, no little red light, no clock....

Well, I am really hoping this is a completely dead battery and not something more sinister as there is usually enough power for the clock! It was fine yesterday.
I've never had a battery completely die overnight before though. Torrential rain last night though, and the car had to practically swim home yesterday. Might have shorted out somewhere and zapped all the power I suppose.

Got it on the charger hoping it will get me in to work tomorrow, mid you good excuse for another day off.

Have checked out all fuses too-all fine.

Just bought a new battery off fleabay for £45 with next day delivery.

Bad luck matey, these this are sent to try us!
Batteries do seem to bum out all of a sudden these days with no warning :frown:
One thing I will say when you've got your new one; stick a meter across the battery with the engine running & make sure you've got 14V ish across it, just in case!

I'm sure that big puddle WhiteVanMan forced me to drive though was the problem. This morning there was still a small puddle on top of the wheel arch next to the battery bay where the earth bolts on-lot's of lives around that area too.

To be honest, the battery way on it's last legs anyway, so £45 delivered isn't so bad.

2nd time off work due to battery.

I've already had the "you do get a lot of problems with your car" comments after admitting changing my own brake pads-front one week, rear the next  Something no-one else at work would even contemplate. "Er....no... changing brakepads is not 'a problem' they wear out!"

Strangely enough, one of these colleagues had driven around for 3 months with a broken suspension spring preferring to "wait until the next service" after I repeatedly told them to get the suspension checked out........

Oh well!
