Air Con question

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Air Con question

Post by teamster1975 »

Hi Everyone :)
I'm getting the aircon pressure tested & regassed on Wednesday, would it be worth replacing the receiver/dryer before it goes in and is that something I could fit or would they have to? Euros have got them for £30 odd so it's not a dear part.
Cheers,
Matt

The receiver/drier is part of the condenser and if all seems well otherwise then I'd leave it alone - you don't really want to start attacking old aluminium threads if you don't need to.

The drier is basically a dessicant bag to absorb any moisture in the system but that's not usually a problem unless the system has been open to atmosphere for a while at some point.

If you need a leak test and recharge does this mean your a/c dont work? If its lost its charge it is likely its pulled air and moisture in, so when its repaired, evacuated and recharged, you may find they have replaced the filter/drier anyway. Lets say its good practice, but at £30 bit pricey. Good Luck!

Yes you're right, nothing there, compressor not cutting in. It doesn't look as though the receiver/drier has ever been changed.
I know that Euros are always open to a bit of haggling, I might just change it anyway. Welly; the drier is a separate unit on the D8's (well on mine anyway! )

Hi everyone,im having some problem with my car right now. I need to replace my A/C Receiver Drier.I found that my A/C receiver/drier reservoir is leaking at the bottom due to corrosion. I tried refilling the refrigerant put it only lasts for about 2 days and then I have no AC. I don't see any other leaks and the compressor seems to be running with out a problem.any help??thanks.

Well apart from being illegal, you are wasting your time trying to put refrigerant in a system without doing a soundness test first (under very high pressure).

Your condenser is probably rotten. Take it to a proper place for a check.
