Windscreen wiper fault

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Windscreen wiper fault

Post by mrcol »

Hi All,

I have a 2001 diesel 406 HDI 110. Recently the windscreen wipers have developed a fault.

The auto sensor function is not working and if you select any other function they wipers will work for about 10 wipes then just stop. sometime halfway through the wipe.

Any ideas what could be causing it and is it a self fixable fault?

I have tried to get a Haynes manual for this model but they don't seem to exist any more.

Any help is much appreciated.

Colin

No you don't, you're about 10 years too early

I'm thinking your wiper motor could be shot. Try putting it on then see how easy it is to stop it with your hand (be careful though)
As for the auto function, turn it on at night and see if you can see a (very) faint light coming from the sensor at the top of the windscreen

Halfords, amazon, motor mania... Should be able to pick one up from anywhere. Red=1996-1999, Green=1999-2004.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Apologies, it is a 2001 HDI 110. Sorry my brain melted a little whilst I was writing this post.
