Speedo & cruise

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Speedo & cruise

Post by coco »

Had a few problems for a while now.

Airbag lights on most of the time - connections under driver's seat?

Low brake fluid level - switch under centre console?

Door mirrors with a life of their own when you start up - probably linked to a drunken son falling into one of them one night!

Last night, happily sitting at 80mph when the speedo stopped working, at the same time the cruise control stopped too. As I fiddled about with the cruise switches the speedo started again and with that so too did the cruise. The whole thing took just a few seconds really. Any ideas?

Like I said, the first few problems have been around for a while but I've just been too lazy to do anything about them, won't be today either looking at the weather forecast!

Any pointers on the speedo and mirrors appreciated

Hi Coco
CAn't help you with the mirrors, but if yours is a d9 the speedo problem and cruise dropping out is almost def your speed sensor failing, both need good signals from this (mounted at the back of you gearbox) .mine had this fault for about 2 yrs and it became more frequent and annoying,Its common fault and easy to replace.cost is about £40.00 for the part from dealer.
Hope this helps
Dave.

Either the speed sender unit (behind the glovebox I think?), the speed sensor on the diff, or bad wiring. I'd suggest the former being at fault.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
