radio

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

407? Hm.. on the '6 you use the steering wheel stalk to scroll through the numbers.

Code? D9?? Tied in to the BSI so there aint one, I'd expect it to be the same on a no boot special. If it really is asking for a number then it's probably an after-market fitment. Try ignoring the fact that the rest of the buttons don't have numbers on them and use them anyway. You may need to experiment to see what does what though.

The usual method of inputting the code is to press the number one key (the left one) until the first number appears in the display, then press the second key until the second number is displayed and so on, then usually you press the (UP) arrow on the radio.

There are variations to this, so read your handbook or ask the dealer.

If you input the code incorrectly you will lock the radio and will have to take it to your local in-car audio specialist for unlocking.Thinking about it, why not take it there anyway for advice.

That's not true (on the D8 at any rate; and I think the D9 radios don't need a code as they're coded to the bsi)
If you put the wrong code in 3 times it'll lock out but if you disconnect the battery for 5 mins it'll reset :)
Hang on, I'll dig out the handbook...

I did say there are variations to this....I was generalising...there are several methods of inputting codes and most radios will lock you out permanently if you keep inputting the wrong code.I've come across this many, many times.
