1999 406 diesel trip computer problem

1999 406 diesel trip computer problem
Recently purchased a 406 and the trip computer just flashes a couple dashes rather than the temperature, and when I press the button on the wiper stalk nothing happens. What could this problem be?

The dashes probably mean that the temperature sensor is dead. It's located under the passenger side mirror and is very easy to replace.
Not sure about the trip computer not cycling through things. Try disconnecting the battery for a little bit, maybe it will reset some stuff.
