Alarm Over-ride Button

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Alarm Over-ride Button

Post by mep12345 »

Both the Haynes Manual and the handbook for my 2000(W) 406 HDi(90) Estate say that the alarm override button is by the handbrake, but mine isn't there. Searching the forums I have seen that on some it is by the drivers door (where mine has the diagnostic socket) so it isn't there. Is anyone aware of any other locations where it might be, or how to override the alarm (internal sensor with door alarms activated) so I can leave the dogs in the car?

The car is the D9 model but some aspects such as the steering wheel, airbag and COM2000 are D8 vintage so I think it is really a D8.5

Cheers

odd. are you looking for the right button? it look like o))) and i can't say i've heard of it being anywhere other than by the handbrake or headlamp adjuster... Do you have ultrasonic sensors at the top of the pillars next to the sunblinds?

Guess you could wait for the dark, lock and deadlock the car then look for the flashing red light...

On my D9, you only get a flashing light if the ultrasonics are disabled
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

hmm in that case I suggest locking+deadlocking it at night in the middle of nowhere, then opening the door with the key to trigger the alarm. The red light should be flashing then :)

The above poster is correct - I don't have the ultrasonic heads at the pillars so cannot have interior sensors, however from my reading of the manual the button should also be there to allow override of immobiliser if RF key fob fails - i.e. open doors with key and then override immobiliser using button and key in ignition.

As mentioned by other poster, I am looking for the correct button that looks like "0)))", but it is not anywhere obvious in the car, is there another way of overriding for cars without the ultra sonic sensors?

Thanks
