Heated rear windscreen repair paint, does it work?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Heated rear windscreen repair paint, does it work?

Post by EvilTwin »

My heated rear windscreen only has about 4-5 of the heater strips still working, so I've been looking at those repair paint kits that you paint over the broken portions of the elements to get them working again. They seem ideal to fix the heater element, as i can see little fizzled out sections on a few of the broken elements, so identifying the repair sections is not a problem.

But I do wonder exactly how good / successful these repair kits are?

Has anyone got any experience they can contribute about this kind of repair, I'd be interested to know if they really work, or if its just a gimmick.

My wife wanted a double socket fitting in the bathroom (for the hairdrier) but I couldn't be arsed to 'chase' the cables in so painted a 2" wide strip of the stuff from the landing socket, round the bathroom door, and up the wall - she then Selotapes the flying lead of the hairdrier wherever she wants, like a bus-bar 8)

Far be it from me to criticise, but if I may suggest:

a). Did you tell her to turn the socket off first?

b). If you're really after the insurance payout, better to keep it to yourself.....

You could route out a slot in the kids bedroom floor and run the scalextric round it! No need to put track away ever again! :cheesy:

That's one way to get rid of the missus! Did you tell her the hairdryer was perfectly safe to use underwater too?

Does the heater track need sanding back to expose the core of the element, or do you just paint over the top, and it all works from there?

Clean up the screen and wire with acetone then just paint it over the remaining wire.
