no radio,

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Wedge a long thin screwdriver in each of the holes at the side, then pull :)

Knitting needles did it for me (not mine, they came from The Troll)

:( well pulled the radio and theres an ariel connected so can only assume theres a problem with the ariel itself, theres a crackling sound from the radio so its probably ok just need to find out where the cable runs to the roof before i decide wether its worth the effort

If the ariel's at the front of the roof (dunno whther you have a saloon or estate, it's at the back on some estates) you can usually get to it by dropping the interior light console out.

Whether there's anything worth listening too?

There isn't anything here :(

*(well, obviously there is stuff on the radio but the news readers speak so fast I've got no chance of keeping up and most of the music stations here play either mariachi (which is good for annoying (English) passengers) or the recycled Abba that passes for popular music here. There is Radio 101 of course, but their European Rock shows may play a couple of good rock tracks and then play some batty boy music, not nice if you've cranked it right up to listen to Jimmy Page...)

If you've got an indoor FM aerial lying around anywhere, try plugging that into the stereo to make sure it's the car aerial/wiring at fault and not the stereo itself

i'll give the internal ariel idea a shot first, then if it still not working i'll try pick up another radio, otherwise i'll have to try popping the light out but have read a previous post which sorta putting me off that route :? , oh and its a saloon mate, sorry should have menyioned that earlier

Hang on a sec I've had a thought: Can you pick up MW/AM radio? If you can't, your head unit is broken because the external aerial is for FM only
