Oh, the shame...

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Oh, the shame...

Post by swiss »

Pardon the dodgy camera work, it was very dark and the camera batteries were low so I guess it struggled a bit...

Right, so I may have mentioned in passing that I was interested in this mod. Wifey dutifully bought me a kit for my birthday last April. Now, TBH, I was going to do this after installing mahosive alloys and uber-low springs. However since the kit had been bought I decided to go ahead anyway.

Problems arose when the dogs ate the instructions and control unit. Therefore I took myself down ye olde scrapyard and liberated a hazard light switch which I substituted for the dummy switch in my console. Now when I press the switch the Green Dream goes from innocent motor vehicle

To uberised glow-mobile of death!

I'm so very, very sorry about this...

Noooooo, chavtastic! Still, on the bright side, at least it won't be long until all the bulbs are smashed from stones on the road though. :supafrisk:

Pff, don't hate the player, hate the game ^^

They're LED strings, not neons, so hopefully they'll survive the mean streets of Southampton...

I've taken to thinking of it as Integral Diode Illumination Optical Trickery, or Project I.D.I.O.T :supafrisk:

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Take some pics in to work.

Maybe your employers will want to copy it across the fleet.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Project IDIOT phase 2 is now complete - I have turned my dashboard blue. The camera wouldn't capture the effect very well, so you'll have to use your imaginations a bit. But the red bits are still red and the orange bits (including the mile counter) are now blue... I managed to break the clock whilst turning that blue but that's easily remedied with a run to the scrapper. Word to the wise - if you split your clock, it's full of teeny tiny springs that ping out all over the place
