Welcome Boab.
First, try the BSI reset procedure. You should find it by using the search box in the top right of this page.
After that... Erk! If the sunlight sensor is shared with the climate control system, it's the 'nipple' you can see on the top of the dashboard between the windscreen vents. No idea at all how you'd get to that though
If the Haynes shows it going into the BSI, look at the wire numbers in the book, find 'em on the BSI connector and shove a multimeter over the pins while slowly covering the sensor... Any changes should be gradual, but I'm running on 100% guesswork here...

Re: dipped beam indicator light flashing and no lights
is it the red nipple on dash centre at windscreen?i thought that was the alarm led i have had that out to have a look as its only 2 wire.ive found what i think is the brightness sensor combined with the rain sensor behind interior mirror.ive put a meter across it and when i cover it up it does vary resistance, just limited info on why the dipped beam indicator on the instruments is flashing. In the handbook the fault refers to brightness sensor and when it flashes the lights should work manually and then it says to refer to nearest dealer.i might plug everything back in do a bsi reset, only other thing that isnt working is the remote for locking central locking works ok with key but not with button.thanks for the help will try bsi first see what happens.

Re: dipped beam indicator light flashing and no lights
Hello Boab, & welcome
The diagram in Haynes isn't too much help as it shows version, (I assume), without auto headlights as there is no link to the BSI. That's clearly incorrect for your car, (or mine), where the BSI must be involved.
FWIW the Haynes version shows:
Battery to MF10, (engine fusebox), then to lighting stalk.
Dip output to F31 & F32, (passenger fusebox), then direct to l/h & r/h dip beams direct, (F32 also to warning light).
Mian beam output to F29 & F30, (passenger fusebox), then direct to l/h & r/h main beams direct, (F30 also to warning light).
With any luck, one of the others with access to Autodata may happen along....
Maybe try linking the stalk feed to the dip output to eliminate a dodgy stalk?

Re: dipped beam indicator light flashing and no lights
cheers for reply, but i'm getting no sidelights + no headlamps but thinking if when i switch headlamp switch on ie to put sidelights on the dipped beam flashes on the dash which to me it shows the switch is operating as its putting a signal out to put light on dash flashing on,i did think switch first but then after noticing the dipped beam light flashing then i thot the switch must be ok i did open the comm switch had a look and on the headlamp contacts there is 4 contacts for live feed, side, dipped and auto switch at end of stalk.baffles me, plenty info on all other warning lamps on dash but none really for dipped beam indicator light flashing had a good search of net with no joy.
Re: dipped beam indicator light flashing and no lights
well after long time passed eventually sorted lights removed all engine earth wires cleaned up and refitted, done earths inside car, removed bsi unit did have some condensation inside unit sprayed with wd40 let it dry and refitted, removed comm unit opened comm unit found on the headlamp stalk where you push the button for auto lights this part comes off gives you access to contacts for lights and fog lights, fiddly job but cleaned up contacts regreased with vaseline and put back together, did bsi reset and lights now working so any of combination of above must have been the fault but sorted now.only thing i cant get working is key fob wont work c/locking its 2 button fob tried the ignition on and holding button on for 10secs but still no joy.anyone shed any light on this?cheers
