My dad's D8 tubby needs a new battery. Now, I have one of those (which is good but can't quite supply the BSI in my D9 V6 while cranking) but when I went to change them round the other day I discovered something disturbing - the tubby battery has screw threads on its terminals!
Looked on servicebox and they're a separate part - ie, not part of the battery - so I guess they should be removable? But I can't get 'em off.
Any thoughts? I don't have a puller unfortunately...

Screw threads? What are you on about man
Do you mean that clamp thing under the positive?

Re: Battery screw terminals
Both battery terminals (on the battery) have male screw threads fitted over the top of them (force-fit it looks). The terminals (on the car) have female screw threads on them, so to remove the terminals you just unscrew them using the cap - no clips or little nuts

Re: Battery screw terminals
Flat blade screwdriver underneath and pry them off. That's how I usually remove them on my batteries.
Re: Battery screw terminals
Yeah, the bottom of the terminal looks like petals on a rose, just lever the the petals apart gently with a screwdriver as suggested above. When you refit them, squash them up so that as you knock them onto the battery they grip tight.
Re: Battery screw terminals
Cheers I'll attack it again tonight if the rain holds off long enough (my coupe's occupying the garage so I'll have to do it in the open)
Think I'll try to take the wastegate solenoid off as well and see if attacking it with carb cleaner has any effect

Re: Battery screw terminals
Undo the two twisty things on the top, remove the battery and take it inside where it's nice and dry and then pry the terminals off inside. You don't need to be out in the rain trying to prise the terminals off.

Ohhh, there's only one like that on mine. I usally use the 8mm open spanner I take the -ve lead off with (standard squeeze-up jobbie) and give it some gentle coercion all the way round, one "petal" at a time. Let me assure you though, battery terminals do indeed break off

Re: Battery screw terminals
Managed to swap batteries no problem today. The terminals came off with a screwdriver, especially the negative which turned out to only have one 'petal'! Quick hammer smack had them on the new battery nicely. Now I don't have to worry about parking my dad's car on the flat where I can't bump start it
