Multiplex or not?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Multiplex or not?

Post by EvilTwin »

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, or been covered before, (not having much luck with the search).

I'm getting an Ipod Touch for xmas, and have been looking into integrating it into my 406, so I can skip tracks using the steering column remote. I'm currently looking into a few different ways of doing this. Tonight I've discovered that Connects 2 make an adaptor for the 406 that will maintain the function of the MFD (chanel display etc), and Column remote, when used in conjunction with a Sony head unit.

This sounds like the kind of thing that may fit the bill, if used with one of the ipod compattible Sony head units; but they come in multiplex and non multiplexed versions, and to be honest I'm not sure what system my car uses.

My car is a 2002 (52) Rapier Hdi estate. So is it multiplex or not?

It's likely that it's a multiplex one at this age. Check your indicators, if it looks like this then it's multiplex.

If it looks thinner (can't find a pic) then it's a non-multiplex one.

I'm just confirming (have to look at the car to confirm) this stalk unit, does it also have variants for auto wipers/lights?

And it has the 2 slots for the steering remote and cruise control on the sides where you remove the blank and pop them in?

Fitted the cruise stalk a couple of months ago to mine, and it physically looks very similar to the 407 cruise stalk.

Thanks peeps, have my eye on a sony stereo with integrated bluetooth. So it would be great to have the MFD and remote stalk working as well.

I have a Sony stereo with integrated Bluetooth - the MEX-BT3600U - it's fantastic, really good choice of head unit (except this one isn't fully iPod compatible; not to worry, I stream music to it via Bluetooth from my Blackberry).

Unfortunately, I didn't know about these adapters when I got mine, so I have a steering column stalk that does sod-all, and the MFD doesn't show very much.

I have an early D9 (Nov. 99) so I guess mine is non-multiplexed - but if I look on Connect2's webpage, they offer two types:
CTDPGS002 - Connects 2 Sony Stalk & Display - Peugeot 406 VDO/Clarion - 22RC200 All semi multiplex
CTDPGS003 - Connects 2 Sony Stalk & Display - Peugeot 206/307/406/607/807 VDO/Clarion - RC200/220/260/280/290 - PU2294/1633 (RD3)
Which of these is right for my car - or if neither is correct, could someone point me in the right direction?
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

The RC numbers relate to the original HU that you had in there. I guess you need to match it up to that.

Crap, it's in a box *somewhere* in my flat... :(

Would ServiceBox tell me what stereo my car left the factory with?

Hmm, unless I'm doing it wrong, it's not recorded on SB (though it's amazing the amount of info that is!). I'll need to dig out the old stereo, I guess.

Okies, found it...

It's a Philips 22RC220/65.

I'm guessing then that this is the bit I need:
CTDPGS003 - Connects 2 Sony Stalk & Display - Peugeot 206/307/406/607/807 VDO/Clarion - RC200/220/260/280/290 - PU2294/1633 (RD3)
If that's the right type, I'll see if I can find one somewhere.
