Indicator 'tick' issue??

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Indicator 'tick' issue??

Post by Bailes1992 »

Got a major issue with the 406.

The indicator 'click' is just going all the time, it stops when you push the stalk inwards.
When it's clikcing its double the speed it usually is and smoke is comming from underneath the instrument cluster.

Anyone got any ideas? Do I just replace the indicator stalk?

Mines a D8 with the old fasioned type of stalk. Will the steering wheel have to come off like the D9's ???

Might just get a new one and leave it with an autospark to get on with.

That's lucky, as far as I know you just take the cowling off, then it's a couple of screws and it's off.

Thanks so much :D Big relif! Do you know what type of heads the screws for the cowling has cause I cant get a torx up there and I cant see up there to see what it is!

If the steering wheel would have to come off I was making a big list of other things I want to do to the car while it's off

I can't remember but they're tiny. I used a long thin flat screwdriver 'cos it fitted :cheesy:

Thanks Steve!

Must spend more time on this forum! I always find myself over on pug306.net for issues as it's got a bigger database but at least I got a good answer here nobody would have known on pug306.net.
It the clicker in with the indicator aswell then?
So take the cowling off, few screws to remove the indicator then and a plug I gather?
Should be an easy enough job :D

I'm not sure where it is on D8s (the parts diagram just shows an arrow pointing up behind the dash near the fuse panel  ) but it sounds to me like the indicator switch has bust and is shorting the clicker out, hence the rapid clicks and smoke.
