external temp sensor

My external temp sender has done some weird things this winter firstly when i switch on my ignition the temp sensor says -2'c and when i start the engine it creeps up and stays around 8-10'c . Now i had had a problem with my battery keep going flat so i am wondering when you turn on and start the engine is probably getting a surge of voltage hence higher temperature or is it just the sensor on its way out :?

Hi.

This will almost always be the sensor itself buggered. I fitted a new one to mine which was dead easy. Not very expensive either. Do not try to pull the wires through the door harness, just cut and join them. Worth doing as the climate control uses it.

Hi ..i had same problem...except my temp reading went up to 49 degrees..!!!
As busman said..its easy to fix...the sensor is located in nearside fron door mirror...remove mirror unit from door and its located in there.
I did what busman said....I cut the wires in there and joined them together to new sensor using a solder gun and works a treat now ......as busman says it uses the climate in conjunction so needs to work properly.

Sorry, I missed this one... twice :oops:

sounds like a dead battery, as car batteries have a finite life and once they go past that, they can't deliver the CCA needed

If you're worried your car's draining the battery when it shouldn't be, go to a Maplins branch. They can sell you a multimeter/ammeter and a suitable probe which fits in the fuse box. With that, you can diagnose exactly which system is eating your battery

406 electrics are surprisingly robust at this level though, and the chances are you may need a new battery. eurocarparts will sell you a decent one for minimal cash outlay
