Alternator problem ?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Alternator problem ?

Post by bombhead23 »

I have Y reg 406 2l diesel.
Everythig is fine with it apart from one annoying problem. I have to chargemy battery everyday if I want the car to start. At first I thought it was a faulty battery so this was replaced but the problem still remained. When the battery is charged, everything is fine and the car runs ok all day. When I come to start it the next day it tries to start but the battery eventually dies. I think it's an alternator problem but I can't be sure.
Can anyone help ?

Kind Regards
Darren

Start the engine and stick a multimeter across the battery terminals. You should be seeing about 14.5V if the alternator's not knackered.
