Hi again to all!
My problem is my car(W reg.406HDi90)won't start. It's showing a little key symbol on dash and says "electronic ignition fault" on the display above radio.Have read various posts here but nothing worked so far.The car was fine last time used, the only thing I can think I've done recently was I opened the boot with the key rather than use the central locking and then locked it again.I only have the one key which doesn't work locks remotely,I've always had to put the key in the drivers door.Any advice anyone?I have an auto electrician coming Thursday but until then it's back on the bike,YUK!!
It's usually caused by either a failed transponder aerial around the ignition barrel, or by a battery that needs replacing (even though it may well turn the starter quite happily)

Thanks very much for that!will have a look, and as an extra , did see one of these transponder thingies on E-bay.The battery was replaced just before all the snow so I know it's not that.
Hi
If you have checked the battery in the remote fob and the ignition ring sensor has not failed you will need the following components to resolve your problem due to ECU corruption:
ECU
BSI
Remote Key fob
Ignition ring sensor
After 3 weeks without my car;which never even happened when I had an old Mini ,fer fooks sake,I really am getting well sick!!!!Have had an auto-electrician who had a quick look then passed me on to a lock specialist(suspecting the key was at fault. That guy assured me I'd be wasting money having the key re-programmed etc,so went back to the first guy who said "I'll ring back".Yes,you've guessed it he never did!I rang him...."will deffo sort time tomorrow".He never.THE TW@!!!!!!!!!!!.So,the state of play now is...another guy is coming tomorrow with all the diagnostic kit.
I have tried the reset.I've tried unplugging and spraying things with WD40.I feel cursed with this car.Oh,forgot to say, some a/hole has booted in my front wings whilst the cars been standing.Fantastic.
"Smokey" may be off to the 'yard, very very soon!!!!!!!!!!!!AAAAAAAAArrgh
ok,latest update....it could be the bsi,it could be the relay near it,or,it could be a bad connection somewhere among all the wiring under the battery tray?Trouble is ,the weather is a bit parky for fiddling about under the bonnet or finding the realy in a scrap-yard,and,more to the point,do I want to spend more on a bsi and all the gubbins which will probably cost more than the car did?!I'm showing my age but I can remember when you could fix a car yourself without recourse to computers or robbing main dealers;that's what got me into diy mechanics in the first place!
My daughter is upset that Smokey may be dead, she it was that gave me 43p of her pocket money to buy him/her.On reflection that shoulda been the total I paid
The BSI is almost certainly not at fault unless you have other strange electronic problems.
It's either the battery, the transponder aerial or (unlikely) the immobiliser ECU.
Are you sure your replacement battery is suitable for your car? Many places tend to under-spec them where the CCA rating is nowhere near what Peugeot specifies, and if the battery's not putting out the required CCA it's going to cause an electronic ignition fault.
