Stereo Swop (Power Problems)

Post by stuart304 »

I have tried to fit a replacement stereo into my 2001 406.
Both the power and speaker connections plugged into my new head unit with no problems.
The problem I am having is the stereo powers up. I set presets etc. I turn of the key the stereo stays on for a while then goes off. I then lose all presets etc. I put it down to the power socket being wired differently to the stereo. I recently removed this stereo from my old Discovery so I know it works correctly.
My main question is does anyone supply a convertor lead/socket to allow my replacement stereo to work correctly? Or do I have to get the multimeter and the wire cutters out. I would prefer not to do that. So if anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Sounds like there's something amiss with the permanent power to the stereo (pin 4 on the power connector). Check fuses F8 and F25.

On D8 models, if you move the fuse F16A to the F16 position (it's the one to the far right IIRC), then the 'power while the ignition's on' pin will change to an 'always on' power source, which may be a successful workaround for your problem.

I had a similar problem, which was solved by swapping the red the yellow wires. :cheesy:
