Plug types for adding a CD changer to standard stereo

Post by sbarnes »

Hi there,
I have a W reg (2000) Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI LX fitted with the factory Clarion CD slot stereo
model number: PU-2184A

I am looking to add a Clarion changer to this stereo as it already supports it (has the changer button etc).

I know they are available on ebay etc and that there are two types of plugs to look for. The rectangle type and the 13 pin din type.

I have no cable already floating around the boot (being an LX) I have pulled the stereo out and there is not a round socket but there is an empty socket a rectangular type at the top of the three.

I mean I have a black rectangle plug, on top of that a white rectangle plug and on top of that a rectangle socket which has nothing plugged into it.

My Question is:
Is this empty socket where the CD changer lead plugs in? and does this mean I nead to look for a changer with the rectangle type plugs, and if so is the socket on the changer also rectangle?

Any help that will allow me to find the correct type of changer and connection for my setup will be grately appreciated.

Many thanks

Simon

Excellant, thank you very much. That has summed it up nicely for me.

I'll get looking with confidence now.

All the best

Hi there,
I little more help please.

I have bought a second hand Clarion changer (cant remember the model number and its in my car at the time of writing this) complete with the correct cable for my vehicle (rectangle changer end and square stereo end).

I have plugged it in to test it before fitting for real and have come up against a problem.
The previous owner has left a disc in the cassete and I was only testing using this disc, in heinsite I guess it could be faulty.

When I insert the cd cassete the changer checks all slots for cds etc and finishes as expected.
When I press the cd changer button on my stereo nothing happens, i.e the cd doesnt play and no display change.

I will try it again tomorrow with different cds but would this be happening if the cd was faulty? or would it say somthing like 'no disc' etc.
If I press the button without the cassette in place nothing changes also, I would expect it to say 'no cassette'

I assume once the changer is plugged in that it is it, I mean there should be no programming needed surley?

supafrisk mentioned that there should already be a plug fitted in the 3 plug socket, mine in completelt empty until I fit the changer plug. Could this be the reason why it is not working? what are the other plugs for?

Any help appreciated.

Same with good cds, possible changer fault? or does something else need doing/adding?

Somone found this info for me regarding the same problem:
You would also need the lads in the workshop to tell your BSI it has a multichanger fitted else the car wont see it.

Carpet trim on left of boot needs changing as it has a multichanger slot / bulge in it.

Also would need bracket to bolt the changer down.

You might be lucky & find the cable is already fitted, take a peak behind the left hand side boot side trim in the corner behind the light, look out for a blue square plug floating about doing nothing.

Fitting is a 10 minute job if the cable is already there: bit longer if you have to feed cable through & also remember BSI setting!

Remove side trim in boot, bolt bracket down with 3 x 10mm nuts

Feed the cable up through the bracket, plug it in the changer, set changer for vertical fitment & then slide it in the bracket.

Clip new side trim to boot & then press eject button on changer to reset it.

Have BSI setting told car now has a changer & job done

Any PLEXED Clarion 6 disc changer will fit, blue square plug!

so it seems it may need the bsi reset? thatsmust be what the citreon garage told me,hope this helps. i'll keep looking online and se if i can find this code, maybe its a diy job,
Not sure what BSI stands (Built-in Systems Interface) for but it takes the mick, you dont need your TV updated when you install a video!!

Anyone heard of this, where it can be done, cost etc?
