An Alpine HU will be the most sensible choice. Brilliant sound quality even without the amp (although, mine runs through an auxiliary amp). Speakers.... there will be a whole lot of discussion about this, but check previous posts. It has all been covered in great detail.
I have Focals at the front (yummy) and Pioneers at the back (decent enough to fill the cabin).

My JVC's perfect!

The colour can be set to match the pug dashboard, and auto-dim when the lights go on. Plays CDs full of MP3s with the display nice and legible - perfect!

I'm extremely happy with my Blaupunkt speakers in my estate, £65 to change all 6 speakers. I also wrote a quick 'How to' on how to fit speakers on here, it's probably a few topics down or just search for Blaupunkt, I'm sure it'll come up!scottish pug estate wrote:well i got a new cd player, its a JVC,got it half price from halfrauds£75

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I know you will have a lot of people recommending branded head units but I recently bought a silverline head unit from Lidl of all places - Its a CD player with SD card slot & USB connection for memory stick and also Bluetooth with built in hands free for the Phone and a AUX connection for your ipod or MP3 player - 4x40watt output and sounds great with the original Peugeot speakers - and all for only £60 - the hands free is great as it comes with a small MIC you can mound somewhere out of the way and the caller commes through the car speakers - very clear.it will pause the music while you are on your call and them continue playing when the call is ended. - I have had pioneer, Kenwood, JVC & Blaupunkt stereos in the past and this sound on standard speakers is as good.
I also bought the fasia plate to replace the factory fit unit for 99p through ebay instead of the £20 wanted by halfords!!
