Radio Antennae D9 Model - Removal.

Post by Old Smokey »

Could someone please tell me how i can remove the antennae whip along with it,s base on the roof. Is the co-axial permanently attached to the whip/base ? My whip is broken & seized absolutely solid - no way it will budge.
Can you get at it from inside the car ? - by removing the interior light cluster etc
Or do i have to take out the whole bloody thing & buy a complete aerial kit from
the stealers. While we,re on the subject my D8 had a long whip, which had excellent reception. This smaller rubbery short whip doesn,t seem to be as good.
At least around my area down here in Wales. I just don,t understand why people don,t put a dab of grease or something on their aerials,it,s a real bitch to try and get them off after they,ve seized solid. Any removal tips would be helpful. Cheers Ian :x

On the D9 coupe, you can remove the aerial base from inside by removing the light cluster, then there's a bold that holds it in place. If you follow the cabe (may need to pull it a little), it's got a connector after about 6 inches of cable so you can disconnect it there. I'm not sure if all D9's have this, but on mine, the base is an amplifier also. I live in Wales also and the reception is fine on mine, but I've heard of quite a few people who's aerial base amp failed. Their about £20 odd from Peugeot. I think the aerial is bought seperately.

Radio Antennae Removal

Post by Pidge »

Hi Old Smokey, I have looked at the replies you have had re your Antennae problem. Did you suceed in getting the job done?

I have a similar Aerial problem which I have posted recently on the electrical forum. Unfortunately my powers of explanation did not give the guys trying to help me enough info to crack the problem.

Yours is the closest example of a similar problem and I was wondering if you had any joy.

Aerial Mount

Post by Pidge »

When I replaced my broken aerial mount (2.2 Hdi GTX) I had to access it from inside via the internal light cluster. I expected to see the remnants of the aerial mount spigot secured by a nut. Instead I was confronted with what looked like a small metal cylinder which was obviously masking the nut. The cylinder is approx 25mm deep and 20mm diameter. It appears to be completely sealed but it has an end cap which you can prise off (I used snipe nosed pliers). The end cap is not obvious and does'nt look as though it will come off. Anyway after I removed the cap I could see the nut and completed the job and pressed the cap back on. I assume that the cylinder is an amplifier as it has a small circuit board inside. :cheesy:

hmm, i too have noticed tht the reception of the shorter antenna is not good, could we just swap with the longer older one by unscrewing the short one, is it a direct fit?

Now you've got me wondering. I've just bought a nice aluminium bee sting ariel which I was going to use to replace the mast. Has anyone tried one of these and will I lose reception? The current mast is quite solid and I dont want to start attacking it with mole grips if I'm going to need to put it back on. (2.0 Hdi, LX Saloon, 2000X)

You'll probably find you can't get the old one off, even with mole grips. best to just replace the ariel and base in one go. The base is £3 to 4, will probably improve the reception too (it did on mine)

Thanks for that. I think I'll buy a new ariel then have a go at unscrewing the mast.
