Standard CD Changers

Post by tazyd »

Hi

I am a new member so apologies if the following questions have been asked before!

We have a 99 V6 Coupe Auto and just bought a 99 V6 Estate Auto.
The coupe CD changer is very picky over what cd's it will play.
Original CD's play ok, but skip easily. Copied Cds skip very very easily and will only play if there is at least one original CD in the changer.
I have tried a lens cleaner CD but no avail.

The estate will not even recognise the CD changer.
Pressing CD button on dash or using the stalk (with CDs loaded in the changer) does nothing, doesnt even try to load a CD.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance.

I can only suggest checking the condition of the wire connections at the changer?

Also a tip I learnt on here ages ago was to copy your CD's at a slower speed on the PC. Copied/back up CD's for your car use if copied at 52x speed always skip but copied at, say, 16x speed are far better.

Welcome by the way, and nice little fleet you have too 8)

It's been a while since the last post here but while looking for a similar problem I thought I'll write my experience here.

I have a skipping cd changer as well in my 2002 D9 saloon. I'll check the connection to see if that helps, though I think it's just the bouncing around that does it.
When I was on holliday and had the trunk loaded with luggage, I noticed that the skipping was almost gone. My girlfriend said that it might be the weight. My father used to have a D9 406 estate which did not had this problem, but an estate is heavier at the back.

I'll keep looking for other solutions though.

I looked at fitting a CD changer (2003 HDI Saloon), but in the end fitted an Aux input.
You can get far more music in an MP3 player than 6 CD's, plus I use mine with a portable DAB radio.

Well, I found out why my changer skips all the time.

Today I thought I will remove the changer and see if there is anything wrong with it. When I got it out it had a little plastic bag attached with three screws in there. When I looked on the changer I saw three of the same screws attached to the unit. These screws move a bit when the inside moves. First I thought that those screws were spare ones, but after opening the unit up I found out that they were the transport screws. Somehow I had three extra transport screws and the person that installed the unit forgot to take them out :? :? what a dumb ***.

I put the unit back together, without the transport screws, and put it again in the boot. Test drove it over a lot of bumps and no more skipping :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

For people who don't know yet, I know there are devices where you can plug in your iPod instead of the cd changer but you can use the standard controls on the car (and also at the steering wheel) to operate it.

Hi,

I have a 2000 model year 406.

The Peugeot boot mount CD player was not recognised by the head unit until the head unit (or ECU?) had been updated via the OBD port.
I upgraded my car with a boot mount unit from a scrap car, but it would not work until I had paid the Pug dealer money to activate it.

Happily though, both the head unit (CD type not tape) and boot unit plays all the CDs I have copied on my PC.
