Hi
I've just bought a 2001 406 HDI. The standard CD/Radio was apparently broken so was replaced with a Alpine that is not compatible with the stalk or LCD display. I like these features. From this forum I understand that if I fit a sony head unit (for example) with an adapter I can use the stalk but not the car display. Could someone confirm this. Also if I fit a 2nd hand standard unit can I use any one or does it have to match the original as supplied?
Many thanks

sony, alpine, kenwood all do a harness adaptor that allows you to use the stalk on the steering coloum

Holy crap that's a guide and a half!
What I did to replace my stereo with a JVC (on a d8) was:
1) Pull the old one out with a couple of smallish screwdrivers in the ISO holes
2) Pull the plugs out of the back of the old stereo
3) Slap in an autoleads fascia (?12ish from Halfords)
4) Plug the plugs into the new stereo
5) push the new stereo in
You can get stalk adaptors for about ?40 but I couldn't be bothered spending that much when I can easily just reach down without looking
I've not heard of anything that'll let you use the display with anything else.
