Following on from earlier post, I think my car has a facia plate to fit a aftermarket radio, whatbdo most people do, I.e fit a aftermarket radio and lose the display or use a tape player and have display??
Also, for those of you who know, do's the display just show up the outside temp and radio station etc or do's it display other things like mpg etc? Thanks

Hi there
The functionality of your Multi-Function Display depends on the trim level of your car. If you car is one of the posher ones that has a sat-nav, then you'll find the MFD will do your sat-nav for you. If not, then it may still do the trip computer, if your car has one of those.
My old 1999 D9 saloon had neither a trip computer nor sat-nav, and the MFD showed the date, time, temperature, and the radio station.
When I removed the awful useless tape deck the car was factory-fitted with and put in the Sony MEX-BT3600 CD-Player/Bluetooth Hands-Free head unit (HU) I bought, I lost a quarter of the MFD's four functions and never looked back.
Connects2 does produce a widget that puts information from an after-market HU on to the MFD, as well as letting the steering column stalk control your HU. It's around the £50 mark. I never bothered with it.

Re: Standad tape player or aftermarket cd
mpg only if the spec was high enough, lower spec cars had a smaller display that couldnt display mpg i believe.

I think its good as a guide of how economically your driving, but usually i put it back to the date and floor it, it gets depressing looking at fuel economy too much, i want to enjoy driving the car, not become a prius drive obsessed with the high score of fuel consumption, it really does have it on the priusses computer, it shows the highest mpg for the car how sad a fact is that.

Wot? Car stereos do bluetooth handsfree too? Apparently so.
I didn't know that
Wow.
I think I want a new radio
Now I know what I want for Christmas
I always have my display on location (sat nav) + MPG (which I really like), i.e., I don't use the MFD for the radio. But I would miss my recently installed radio stalk.
Trip 1 gets reset when I fill up and trip 2 gets reset at the start of each journey. (Anally retentive much?)
FarmerPug: I see you've change your signature. You're only jealous of my 59mpg (And I, in turn, am jealous of PolskiPug's record.)

Your COM2000 car needs an Autoleads cable - this one. Once you've picked a head unit, buy this cable and be sure to choose the appropriate patch lead from the drop-down list on that page.
Problem solved!
If you get one of those before I do, let me know how well it works - my 2002 Coupe still only has the original Clarion tape deck HU (hate it), and my Sony HU is waiting in the boot for when I get the necessary bits, and either grow a set and do it myself, or take it to a car audio specialist

You hate the clarion tape deck but its fantastic, it produces brown spaghetti when a tape thingy is put in.

But... but that's what I like doing to tapes! I don't want it to do it for me!
Anyway, I don't have any tapes any more, so it's as much use to me as a chocolate kettle.

Re: Standad tape player or aftermarket cd
i have a tape but i dont know where.
I think the reason these days theres so much shite music is because its so easy to store it, before great groups like ac/dc had to work really hard to ensure the 8 track which didnt hold much had good music to compensate for the lack of quantitiy, now artists just make anything and it can end up in a small portion of a hard drive.
