308 sat nav in 406

Post by pclarejnr »

Hey all

I've opened a new topic as I figured it would be more legible that way, I have a 406 se d9 and would like to install a 308 sat nav/dvd system

i will keep this updated with my progress, if you can help or see any potential hiccups then please feel free to give input or direct me in the direction of a knowledgeable person

below is a link to the photos I'm taking during the change, there are comments on some of the photos which are my thoughts if you see anything that you can answer please do

I've put the car back together whilst I get to grips with the wiring, blower restructure etc
as its Christmas too this may take a little longer than usual.

here are some of my ponderings'

1. can bus wiring
2. heater blower restructure

Hmm, my biggest worry would be if the radio had to be coded to a particular car and whether the CAN protocol used in a 308 is compatible with the one used in a 406 multiplexed system.

2009 - 2013: 2002 Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI 110bhp Executive Saloon
2013 - 2021: 2007 Peugeot 407 2.2 HDI 170bhp Executive Saloon (mapped to 213bhp )
2021 - ????: 2016 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 180bhp Titanium

I agree, there is a seperate can bus for this stereo as seen in the photos, I hope i'm right in thinking that if it doesn't work then this only means that the remote stalk and dimer wont work?!?

my biggest worries are sabotaging the matrix box and if my car has or hasn't got an amp same goes with the new stereo

Well...

I have hacked the matrix box to find that there's not enough room for the nav at the top (would have hindered the flaps), so i plastic welded it back up :supafrisk: and proceeded to hack up the bottom of the matrix and the dashboard ,

having gone this far I must say I'm happy with the system etc but (i'm not going down the can-bus route), I doubt I'd do it to a newer car, mine is a 03 with 200k so I figured it was worth the risk, however in hindsight, the car was immaculate and now it's not (meaning that if I sold it and wanted the system out then whoever bought it would have a lovely gouge in the dash which if i'm honest would p!$$ me off)

maybe in daylight when I have a good muse it might have been worth the time and effort

I shall add photos tomorrow... tbc
