Phillips 6 CD Changer

Post by pacmannewry »

Just recently bought the car but for the life of me I can't get the CD Changer to work. I insert the tray and the noises sound like it's loading but when I try to access any CD in the car, I get nothing. Messages range from load CD to just nothing. I've noticed that the small pads on each disc tray are not really sitting flush with most of the CD's so could this be the problem? If so, can replacements be bought?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I also have a vague recollection of a silver Nissan Sunny and a red Proton somewhere way back before my brain got addled.

Checked it for water ingress and nothing doing. The message I get is load CD and no tunes come out of it at all.

Don't mean to sound insulting or patronizing, but ... are you sure you've got the CDs in the right way round?

Wouldn't be the first time I'd heard these symptoms and the person kicking themselves once they'd tried flipping the discs over (both here and on the Coupe club)

I had similar problems which I cured by cleaning the interior of the changer and its lens. It's quite a simple job if you're carefull, and armed with cotton buds.
Take the changer out of the car and place it on the kitchen table. You will see the cover is held on with several little machine screws. Remove these, and keep safe in a little pot as they will try and run away. You can then take the cover off, and be amazed by the amount of dirt inside. I do remember thinking, wow, how did this ever work with this much dirt in it? Now it's a simple clean up job using a small brush and lens cleaner on the lens. It should take about half an hour to do. Reasemble and refit. I did mine about three years ago, and it's not skipped a beat since.

Highlander,

I did that the first time but then when I read the manual, I realised my mistake. Still no joy though.

Busman,

Given the cars age, you're probably right. I have cleaned lenses before in my son's playstation so your method sounds very similar. Thanks for the advice and I'll give it a go at the weekend. Is the unit hard to remove from the car?

Cheers

Nope, its just a couple of torx bolts, and a minor wiggle.. Then there is a simple multi conector to undo. It's really dead easy.
