No power to CD changer in boot

Post by impster »

Hi guys - is there a 'how to' guide on here about repairing the boot-mounted 6 cd changer as fitted to standard HDi 110 models?

Mine was working about 6 months ago, but not working now. I seem to recall something about moisture/condensation affecting soldered parts of the power distribution circuit board on the changer?

It's a Clarion CAA-355.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Take the lid off and Remove the small pcb board, iirc its held in with 2 screws,
check the solder joints on that,

sometimes they carnt be repaired, :(

Right,

the PCB had some corrosion, and I had to replace about 3mm of PCB track with some tinned wire and a soldering iron. Unbelieveably, it works!

however, seems that the cd player has been dormant for so long that the mechanism is really sticky.

Any advice on how to repair these? It's a Clarion 6cd changer unit, model 96 396 923 80.

It takes the CAA-355 cartridge.

Thanks!

lol thanks!

what I should have said was, that the mechanism is so stiff/stuck - that it won't even try to load a cd into the player.

It's getting power alright, but the mechanism that 'selects' one of the 6 cds won't move unless forcibly pushed into place.

Can these be repaired???

Dunno mate Tbh,

Try: Wd40 on the Movable parts, but avoiding the lens ?

yup, already done that. Not sure if I avoided the lens though...

I've not used the cd player since buying the car last July/August (2011), and I've used my smartphone and mp3 player via a casette addapter. But, now that the cd player won't work, obviously I feel the need to get it to work.

I'm hoping a few days soak with WD40 will loosen it so that it starts to move.

But, in case it doesn't work, does anyone know if any of the 2 types of Clarion 6 disc changer will work with my car?

There's 2 types available, ranging (on ebay) from £1 to £40.

Thanks

Problem over (i hope).

A replacement 6cd changer on it's way. Will have it for £18 delivered, from a 206, but same part number, and in good condition.

I love ebay.
