I bought one from ebay a year or two ago, it was excellent apart from a small dark strip along the top, recently though it has started degrading, varies a lot with temperature, sometimes its more or less OK but when it gets very hot a lot of it becomes unreadable.

Can you use the non satnav display in them, I never use it as I have a TomTom.

You can use the non nav type display as it's a plug and play replacement, the only thing I found when I changed the last one for a non nav dispay was I lost the remote radio function on the column stalk for some reason. :?

I lost that on a straight C to C swap, and the cd changer... It is possible to get the functionality back, but it took me about 2 hours over 2 days playing with PP2000 to find the right options set (don't ask me what it was, I pressed everything I could find that looked even vaguely relevant in lots of different combinations.)

I have the opposite. Was fine in the summer then when it's colder I get the lines. Brought the display indoors for a few hours and when refitted it was fine again until it cooled down :(

Thanks for that. I also lost the radio remote controls when I changed mine for the correct type but I'm not bothered as I am going to fit an after market radio.

Re the failure of the display, both of mine got worse as the temperature increased but the display does get very hot in the winter as being a cold mortal I have the heater on full most of the time and it makes the dashboard hot. The displays themselves seem to generate quite a bit of heat, I did see that someone had introduced a fan and some vents, how well did it work?

Mark W did it first, I followed suit later. His was a recent replacement that was working perfectly, he was just trying to keep it that way.
My display is almost perfect - if not too hot or cold.

The fan helps it 'recover' quicker.

Not had an issue with remote controls myself, despite having the display in and out many times plus a comm2000 change.
This is undoubtedly a manifestation of O'Leary's Theorem, (which states that Murphy was a hopeless optimist).
Since I have PP2k, my audio stalk behaves impeccably, anyone lacking this facility will experience problems whenever the display or the vehicle battery is changed.

I was selling the car on so I never tried to cure it,i just took the radio stalk off the comms unit and denied all knowledge of ever being there to the new owner.
