Would one of these auxiliary cd to mp3 converter things fit my radio?

Hello, yes, I know, I read that post and that's where I got the connet2 link from, but, no where in that post does it say "precisely" which head unit it will connect too. It just says 406 VDO unit and the ebay page says 2002 onwards. My car is 1999, but everything else from that post is exactly like my situation and so I cant see it not working. I dont know if my steroe is a VDO unit or not either. I just need some clarification.

If I have missed something obvious then sorry I will delete this post, but I just need a definite "YAY!" of "NAY!"

Looks like you pulled your radio out there, nothing useful written on it?

This is the most useful site I've found:

Compatible with Clarion, Philips or VDO radios with multiplex cabling and square blue 8 pin mini ISO connection on reverse of radio for CD changer connection, including:

Philips/VDO: RC200, RC220, RC260
Clarion: PU1633A, PU2294A
Not suitable for Clarion models with part numbers beginning PU9 or PU15.

Suggestion. If he puts his VIN no, into ServiceBox, (which is back BTW), it'll tell you which stereo under 'Characteristics'

This might be suitable, but you need to do your homework first, and find the model No of your radio first.

Thanks everyone for their replies. That picture is of a stereo thats for sale on ebay, I need to get the removal tools before I can remove mine and see what it is. I still cant register on servicebox yet to check what stereo I have either - the webpage is still showing errors!

Anyway, thanks for those other links, I will see if I can find if other equivalent bits will work. I cant see why it should be a problem as surely cd feeds are going to be pretty standard amongst head units.

In fact looking at that ebay listing it gives the radio model codes on the other webpage. Seems a quick google search shows its a model of either one of these: Clarion PU-2184A / PU-1633A / PU-1646A PUGX1
The only worrying part is that the instructions on the Honda thing say:

"Vehicles manufactured after 1999 may require the head unit initialising on the Peugeot
Diag 2000 diagnostics machine by a main dealer. Contact ICD Technical for further info."

What do you reckon the reason for that would be?

I used two small allen keys to get mine out, 3 or 4mm I think. You just need to push something in there to release the catches, than pull the fascia gently forward and up.
I managed to get into ServiceBox this evening, if it won't work for you PM me your VIN & I'll look it up for you.

If the car didn't come with a CD changer, it won't let you use one (or anything connected to the changer socket) until you get the BSI reconfigured by a dealer to tell it you now have a changer

Ah! That makes sense. Well the car did have a cd changer before it broke so that shouldn't hopefully be ok.

On the subject of the software needing updating when adding an Aux input.
As far as I know my car has never had a CD changer fitted.
Well I think it has not, there is no mounting gear or hole cut in the boot lining, Just the cable with the blue plug in the boot.
However adding the Connects2 Aux input worked fine without any re-programing.

Just for anyone who cares, I bought the connects2 device and it works brilliantly. Took 10 mins to fit and gives excellent sound quality. I now have my Nokia phone, with 16gb memory card containing all my music, with the nokia headphones control mounted on the dash plugged into the connects2. Means I can now change the songs without having to dangerously mess about with the phone, and it also acts as a handsfree device allowing for voice dialing etc through the stereo speakers. Brilliant stuff!

how does the bsi manage to control the changer through the stereo? are the dealers usually ok about changing the bsi or are they asking stupid money?
