A stupid idea with no takers.
I occurred to me earlier that what we really need is someone to disconnect every sensor one at a time on their engine and record what happens (you know, stuff like won't start, runs like a Cortina, eml light up, threw conrod etc.) This would of course have to be someone that a) has the ability to reset their ecu and b) doesn't mind the idea of breaking something. Oh, and c) is extremely bored.

On petrols:
Without the throttle pot, the car will idle 2-3000rpm and be very unstable.
Without the crankshaft position sensor, petrol cars won't run since the ECU won't know when to fire the plugs
Unplugging the coolant temperature sensor *may* cause rough idle, misfiring and a drop in performance+economy
Unplugging the intake air temperature sensor - no noticeable difference
Dunno about the lambda/map/knock sensors and can't think of any more

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: A stupid idea with no takers.
IMHO ideally needs someone with more than one car, (for obvious reasons), and one of them is a 406 110 Hdi.....
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Unplugging the idle air valve will cause very rough idling and leave you wondering what is wrong until you remember that you forgot to reconnect it

I know where you're coming from, I had it in mind to do it myself but then I thought of three good reasons why not: I have no code reader, I can't afford to fix it if I break it and I have about 8 jobs going on at once just now. This includes tarting up the D8 so some mug, sorry, discerning gull will buy it.dogslife wrote:IMHO ideally needs someone with more than one car, (for obvious reasons), and one of them is a 406 110 Hdi.....

Oh most definitly rust free, no massive oil leak either, or disintigrating back plates
